What we collect

If you buy a guide: the checkout asks for your email address, name, billing address and, if you want, your phone number. Shopify handles the order and the download links. If you pay by card or instant EFT, Payfast processes the payment.

If you sign up for the free route: your email address, and that and when you consented.

If you use the contact form: your name, email address and your message.

If you write a review: your first name, town, motorcycle, which guide you bought, your words and your email address, and that and when you consented. We only show your first name, town, motorcycle and words on the site, and only with your consent. We use your email address only to check that you bought and to contact you about the review; we never show it. Ask at any time and we take your review down.

If you only visit the site: we use no site analytics, advertising tracking or cookies. As with every website, our host, Netlify, receives technical details such as your IP address in order to serve you the page. The fonts load from Google Fonts, so Google also receives your IP address and browser details. See cookies.

Why we have it

To process your order and get your guide to you, to answer your question, and — only if you signed up for it — to send you the free route and to let you know when there is a new guide or an update.

We do not collect more than is needed for that, and we keep it only as long as we need it for that purpose or the law requires.

Who sees it

Shopify (orders, payment and download links), Payfast (card and instant EFT payments), Brevo (the email list), Netlify (the site and the forms) and Google Fonts (fonts). If you tap the WhatsApp link, you are talking directly to WhatsApp. We never sell your details and we do not give them to advertisers.

Some of these service providers are located outside South Africa, so your information may be processed outside the country.

The Facebook group

We never add members of the Facebook group to an email list. Only people who sign up here on the site themselves. That is POPIA, not a preference.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or stop receiving email. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. Ask us directly and we answer within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your information, you can lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator: inforegulator.org.za.
